Abstract

ALMEIDA, DJAIR LÁZARO  and  ORLANDO, ROSIMEIRE MARIA. School enrollment and the inclusion of students with disabilities in public schools: an analysis in a city in the State of São Paulo. Rev. Comunic [online]. 2015, vol.22, n.3, pp.239-254. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v22n3p239-254.

This article aims at analyzing data regarding the enrollment in special education in public schools of a city in the state of São Paulo in order to check quantitative changes in the number of enrollments of students with disabilities as indicators of the inclusion process between years 2009 and 2012. To this end, the survey was based on the Diagnosis profile of special education services, provided by the Regional Board of Education of the district in focus. This descriptive study, based on desk research, focused on students with visual, auditory, physical, and intellectual disabilities by level and type of education. Within the panorama of inclusive education traced in the past four years, some aspects draw our attention. Four of them deserve special mention: the growing trend in the number of students with disabilities enrolled in the regular school system, the concentration of such students in primary education, the low rate of students receiving support after school time, and the high rate of intellectual disability compared to other disabilities.

Keywords : SPECIAL EDUCATION; STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES; EVOLUTION OF ENROLLMENTS.
