Abstract

This article reports an experience related to racial theme in the school environment, specifically in the classroom. It understands that the pedagogical practice defines besides learning, behavior. Therefore, the pedagogical actions are focus on instigating reflection of the students and awaken them to the ethnic and racial issues. The media resources are understood here as auxiliary and components used teaching strategies (reading circles, self-portrait, photo analysis etc.). The practical part of the research was conducted in a 1st. year classroom in the inner of São Paulo State, at São Carlos city. The illustrations of children and the dialogues were important responses that have guided the work. It is observed at the end, the teacher’s role as the main mediator in the deconstruction of culturally ingrained prejudices.
