CASTRO, André Luis da Silva et al. Students’ conceptions on homosexuality: prejudice in teacher’s training courses?. Rev. Educ. e Cult. Contemp. [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.40, pp.300-316.  Epub 30-Jul-2018. ISSN 2238-1279.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2238-1279.20180058.

The present study is an assessment of students’ conceptions on homosexuality and its relationship with age, sex and the course (teacher’s training in Chemistry, Mathematics and Biologic Sciences). The sample was composed of teacher’s training course students from a federal teaching institution of the State of Goiás. A questionnaire was applied to 141 students. It contained three scales validated for the assessment of prejudice: scale of explanations on homosexuality, scales of emotional expression and of rejection to intimacy regarding homosexuals. The results revealed different prejudice levels, identified by explanations that deny homosexuality as an individual’s identity form, by rejection of intimacy regarding homosexuals and the expression of negative emotions in relation to homosexuals. Male students are more prejudiced than female students, no matter the course or the student’s age. Thus, the development of policies and strategies of initial and continuing education is necessary in teacher’s training courses, in order to deconstruct stereotypes and prevent that prejudiced conceptions regarding homosexuals be reproduced in teaching.
