SCHERER, Renata Porcher. Teacher training, traditionalism and the feminization of teaching in Brazil: a study of the work of Aparecida Joly Gouveia. Rev. Educ. e Cult. Contemp. [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.41, pp.316-342.  Epub 15-Out-2018. ISSN 2238-1279.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2238-1279.20180079.

This article, when investigating the themes of teacher training and the feminization of teaching in the Brazilian pedagogical literature of the 1960s, identifies that the question of traditionalism constituted an important variable for the choice of teaching by the girls of that period. From the documentary analysis of the academic production of the researcher Aparecida Joly Gouveia it is possible to identify that at the time analyzed, one of the criticisms of the normalists was that their formation was based on the lack of a practical nature in the teaching courses, which would be below the desired for the future professional practice. Thus, it can be affirmed that the debate between, on the one hand, a content-based or theoretical formation and a formation based on didactic knowledge, or practice, was an important issue in the analyzed period in which Brazilian education went through a broad process of democratization. Another highlight is the pioneer investigation of the researcher about women's vocational decisions in a Brazil that was experiencing a process of rapid industrialization inaugurating the debate about the feminization of the teaching profession and the role of women in this society. From this perspective, it is understood that a resumption of Gouveia's writings may contribute to reframing the debate about the history of teacher education in Brazil.
