Abstract The study analyzes the shared social representations by 103 teachers from the cuiabano public basic education school system, about aging. It theoretical and methodologically follows the proposals of the Theory of social representations developed by Moscovici in 1961. The data were collected through the use of word associations, followed by explanations, recorded, on the words. These were processed by the EVOC software, after submitted to the similitude analyzes and categorized. The results allowed considering that the representations organize themselves and their meaning is constructed from two elements: disease and experience, indicating, losses and gains of the aging process, emphasizing the impairments and pointing to the social conditions that surround the aging process.
