The article presents some issues regarded to the implementation of the Law 10.639/03. &is law amended the article 26 of the Law of Directives and Bases of National Education, turning mandatory for all schools to adopt Brazilian contents related to African history, the history of blacks in Brazil and its contribution to the construction of Brazilian society. It assumes that the implementation of the law falls within the scope of social policies, the area of education developed in Brazil, in particular policies directed at minorities. From a framework for analysis of racial inequalities in Brazilian education, this paper discusses the results of research on race relations in schools in Mato Grosso state, seeking to demonstrate that the results have much in common with those indicated by studies conducted elsewhere. It ends indicating that the tasks necessary to the implementation and their required assessment are not sufficiently discussed yet.
