We aimedat investigating the conceptions of biological sciences undergraduate students of the State University of MatoGrosso (UNEMAT), Tangará da Serra, about the human (animal) identity. A questionnaire, based on Likert-like scales was applied to all the students of this course, totaling 159 individuals. The results showed that the extension influenced the students’ development of conceptions about the human-animal identity, and that the proximity with scientific initiation activities was related with a tendency to associate moral dimensions with other non-human animals. This information can be important to plan didactical activities that favor overcoming racial prejudice.
