This article analyzes the theoretical production of researchers who discuss rural education, identifying the approximations and distancing of this production with curricular theories. Based on the work of Caldart and Arroyo, the paper indicates in which aspects the so-called pedagogies of the rural social movements are related to presumptions of the curricular theories and to what degree they are interlinked ordistant. It demonstrates the ties between the pedagogical proposals of the rural social movements and curricular theories and concludes with a still not explicit approximation of these proposals with Freire and with critical perspectives on curriculum
