Abstract

The city of Rio de Janeiro was characterized, during the 1920s, attempts by the articulation of isolated initiatives reconfiguration and public hygiene already implemented since the turn of the twentieth century: rationalize the spaces and social times and disciplining their uses were as challenges. As a result, the education in the season also meant as a form of social intervention. The article discusses these issues, focuses on operations were mobilized by the Instruction Directory and the Municipal Administration. Based on analysis of periodicals, educational legislation and reform projects, this study problematizes the educational and urban dimensions of the government.
