Abstract

MORAES, Gustavo Henrique  and  WOLLINGER, Paulo Roberto. The fragmentation of careers as strategy to expand the higher education. R. Educ. Públ. [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.47, pp.549-568. ISSN 2238-2097.

Abstract Brazilian higher education has experienced, in the last decade, an unprecedented expansion, motivating the development of many academic studies to analyze the characteristics of this growth. There is, however, a phenomenon often overlooked by those who perform analysis on System development: the career fragmentation as a strategy for higher education expansion. Analyzing data from the Information System of Higher Education (SiedSup), the primary source of the Higher Education Census 2009, in this article we will try to demonstrate that career fragmentation is closely linked to private educational groups’ strategies to increase the number of courses and enrollment.

Keywords : Higher Education; Careers Fragmentation; Expansion of Higher Education; Commodification.
