Abstract

This paper analyzes the use of terms consciousness, consciousness raising and grasp of consciousness in studies presented at the IX and X Encontro Paranaense de Educação Ambiental - EPEA (2006/2007) (IX and X Environmental Education Meeting in Paraná), taking into consideration theoretical reference by Piaget and Freire. The analysis was processed using the software Alceste, which emitted a report dividing the textual corpus into four classes. Information analyzed indicated that the consciousness in an environmentalist view is presented as a factor that promotes sustainability, consciousness raising, acts preventing environmental damage; and the grasp of consciousness and critical consciousness are restricted to the school and pedagogical universe.
