Professionalism in early childhood education is a topic that has gained increasing space on research and political agenda. This article presents the work of some groups that have been dedicated to investigate the issue internationally from various perspectives. It searched to identify their main focus of interest, methodologies, concepts, propositions and publications. In addition to expanding our theoretical and methodological references, dissemination of such information may strengthen initiatives that focus on supporting the recognition of a profession that keeps its specificities, but whose contours are not always visible, recognized and valued.
