Abstract

HECHT, Ana Carolina. Niñez, escolarización y lengua indígena. Una mirada antropológica sobre la diversidad lingüística en la escuelaChildhood, schooling and indigenous language. An anthropological approach on language diversity in school. R. Educ. Públ. [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.49, suppl.02, pp.405-419. ISSN 2238-2097.

In this presentation we will reflect about some issues of linguistic diversity of indigenous children as students in formal educational institutions. In particular, we will focus on the visibility-invisibility of the languages spoken by children in school and on the possible consequences that entails for the definition of indigenous children in school as students within programs and policies of Intercultural Bilingual Education. These reflections are based on research performed with indigenous children Toba (Qom) who are resident in the Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina).
