Abstract The Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) presents a clinical condition that affects the child’s development and school performance of children with complications such as cerebral hemorrhage and cognitive and behavioral changes. This study investigated the cognitive and academic performance of 14 children with SCD aged between 8 and 12 years. In proof of reasoning over half the children got an average rating. School performance half of the sample had a history of school failure associated with the symptoms of the disease. The implications of the clinical picture of the disease on children’s learning in school deserve attention
