Abstract A trajectory of the Revista de Educação Pública is reflected in the twenty years of its existence, focusing on the process of consolidation as an important means of the knowledge veiculation to the scientific community specialized in educational field. It was revisited the editions from zero up to the number 44 of the journal which were published between 1989 and 2011. It was observed the advances as scientific journal, the magazine has maintained its original aim, but it felt the need of having redirected its technical aspects to adapt to the demands of formal standards required by CAPES. This culminated in its internationalization and the Brazilian scientific journals evaluation classified it as Qualis A2
