Abstract This paper aims to analyse the Chilean curricular reformulation which began in 1996. This reformulation includes the introduction to environmental issues. The relation among the groups that were part of the process, the context of the country was going through after a long period of dictatorship and also the modernization goals and the global-local relations considered as key in this process. This analysis is based on Stephen Ball’s policy cycle approach and Ivor Goodson’s contributions about the importance of school subject communities involved in the process
