This study used historical elements to understand how the psychological sciences were inserted in the Special Education and based their practices, recognition of a new school phenomenon: the mental disability. For this, besides a theoretical investigation, a research was carried out in the Pestalozzy Institute of Belo Horizonte, considered one of the first schools of special education in the country. The analysis was based on the historical-critic perspective in Psychology. From the studies carried out, it was concluded that the researches and practices done by the Modern Psychology, by inventing a disability, they reiterated the capitalist-industrial policies in the early XXth century.
