This article deals with the social representation of deficiency in Kaiowá and Guarani culture, experience the Indian villages of Greater Dourados, MS. This is ethnographic study and the theoretical frameworks used are the Cultural Studies, perspective designed to discover the relationships, the assignment of meanings, attitudes and beliefs of the indigenous communities on the subject of deficiencies. Those who participated of the open interviews were: older people, indigenous leaders, anthropologist and family members. The results indicate the search for intercultural dialogue, cultural changes in the way deficiencies were seen and coped with, and reveal that, although still in the beginning stages, there is a better outlook for the care and survival of indigenous children with deficiencies.
