Abstract This paper presents assumptions, perspectives and challenges encountered for inclusion of History and Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous in the curriculum of public schools municiais of Mato Grosso do Sul. Bibliographic studies and semi-structured interviews with teachers and school administrators on implementation were conducted Laws 10.639/2003 and 11.645/2008. The results point to epistemological and practical perspective on the challenges of education for ethnic-racial relations, as these laws require other paradigms for thinking about the difference and deconstruction of colonial processes and relations of power and knowledge in existing school curricula and teaching practice.
