Abstract This article discusses the educational reality of the field in Alagoas. Theses and dissertations have been searched on the basis of CAPES that have dealt with the relationship between education and economic development of the field and collected data on the existenceof schools in the rural settlements of Alagoas and / or in the vicinity of them. The literature review revealed that, despite the importance attached to the relationship between education and development of settlements, studies about the reality of the Alagoas are scarce. It is necessary to know this reality because access to formal education is still a problem for Alagoas settlements, especially in the backwoods region.
