This study presents the result of a bibliographic research concerning the relationship between the school and its neighborhood. There have been selected 170 works produced from 1990 to 2010 and published on CAPES and SCIELO. Besides the frequency of works by production year, geographic region and methodology used, this study defined categories based on the objectives of the selected works. It was possible to observe a preoccupation with the debate,especially the relationship between schools and families, as well as the concern of educators and the community about the issue, aiming to obtain improvements for the school.
