The platonic critic of painting projects over the production and the contemplation of images notes of unreality, irrationality and passivity, opposing seeing to knowing and acting, a plain acceptance of appearances. This paper aims to problematize this iconoclastic tradition, exploring the opening that art images offer to critical writing.
