The rural school in Colombia during the twentieth century had a slow progress, in which the levels of coverage and expansion of elementary education occurred slowly and with imbalances among regions. That century, that was characterized for keeping the countryside as the main stage of the biggest armed and social conflict, configured for the rurality, education systems unable to recognize the characteristics of its population. The article presents a historical survey of the most important educational and curricular policies for the countryside, developed in Colombia during the twentieth century, seeking to understand the representations (CHARTIER, 2002) on the rural, implicit in processes that generated them marginalization.
