Abstract

PRETI, Oreste  and  ALONSO, Katia Morosov. The Open and Distance Education Center at UFMT: a look into a present past (1992- 2005). R. Educ. Públ. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.59, pp.312-327. ISSN 2238-2097.  https://doi.org/10.2016/repub-v25n59maio.ago006.

In August 1994, the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) created the first online undergraduate program in Brazil, focused on the training of in-service teachers for Elementary School. In this paper we will discuss the trajectory of the Open and Distance Education Center (NEAD) of UFMT, which implemented that program from 1992 to 2005. We aim to identify some elements that were essential for this pioneering experience to become a national reference. The interdepartmental and inter-institutional character, the innovative curriculum proposal, and the organization of a distance learning system based in the regional reality are among those elements.

Keywords : Distance Learning; Teacher Training; Institutional Experience; LD System.
