This article aims to analyze the way in which the press discloses the violence of young peo ple and the violence in school. It is proposed to analyze occurrences reported in the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, in the early 2000s, in whi ch one perceives the emergence of a significant number of articles and research that focus on school violence. We adopt as a theoretical approach the Sociology of the Imaginary, dis cussed by several authors as Castoriadis(1986), Legros et al. (2007) e Taylor (2006), trying to analyze the imaginary about the school and the interactions that take place in the school institution and its surroundings, from the news about school violence.
