This study analyzed data concerning to Saresp, pertaining to the subjects of Portuguese Langua ge and Mathematics in the interval between the years 2008 and 2014. The methodology included a analysis documentary, through the collection and processing of data relating to assessments ap plied by Saresp, as well as some of the SEESP do cuments that have direct or indirect relationship with the Saresp. From analysis is observed in official discourse negligence in building a more realistic picture of the performance results of the students, which undermines the potential of this assessment to assist decision-making in relation to educational programs and quality monitoring.
