This article aims to discuss the manifest of public primary teachers of the Court, written in 1871, and its relations with the teachers associations and the process of professiona lization in teaching. The analysis of the ma nifest provides opportunities to think about the conditions of emergence of the teacher’s movement, its forms of organization, deman ds and acting. I use as a source for this paper the manifest of public primary teachers of the Court, the law of the period, especially the reports of the minister of the Empire, and other teachers’ writings such as petitions and educational journals.
