Abstract

ARAUJO, Alberto Filipe; ARAUJO, Joaquim Machado de  and  MONT’ALVERNE, Iduína. Peter Pan and Eternal Childhood: under the sign of the heroic child. R. Educ. Públ. [online]. 2019, vol.28, n.68, pp.485-505.  Epub Jan 21, 2020. ISSN 2238-2097.  https://doi.org/10.29286/rep.v28i68.8403.

This article traces Peter Pan´s portrait as a child who maintains the state of childhood and analyses Peter Pan as a mythical and archetypal creature. The analysis is based on Jung’s contributions, on myths and on the symbolic hermeneutics of Gilbert Durand. Analyzing Barrie’s work, one must remember that grown people are afraid of taking risks, depart from the imagination, repress it, refuse it even in the name of reason on the diurnal, solar, patriarchal life, to the detriment of the nocturnal, mystical, lunar, matriarchal side of life.

Keywords : Mytocritics; Peter Pan; Eternal Childhod; Symbolism.
