Abstract

NETTO, Mario Borges  and  MACHADO, Maria Cristina Gomes. The militancy of Florestan Fernandes in defense of brazilian public school (1954-1964). R. Educ. Públ. [online]. 2020, vol.29, e8517.  Epub Mar 02, 2020. ISSN 2238-2097.  https://doi.org/10.29286/rep.v29ijan/dez.8517.

We aim to analyze the participation of Florestan Fernandes in the Campaign in Defense of Public School (1960). From the study we understand that the struggle to overcome the educational dilemmas conferred the unity of Florestan Fernandes' work within and outside the academic space and coherence between his world view and intellectual action. At a time when the sociologist combined his intellectual formation with persuasion, to raise awareness and call citizens to transform reality. This led us to argue that educational writings are central to understanding Florestan Fernandes as an intellectual.
