The objective of this research is to unveil what are the main activities carried out by tutoring (presential and virtual) within the scope of the Universidade Aberta do Brasil (UAB) System. For that, data were collected, through virtual questionnaires, of 677 teachers who work or have already worked in courses offered under the UAB System. Subsequently, 8 semi-structured interviews were carried out. In the study, we identified that tutoring can be considered a teaching activity. Therefore, better working conditions are required for tutors in view of the importance of these professionals to the multifaceted experiences of Distance Education that have been developed in the UAB system.
