Abstract

CASTRO, Camila Sandim de  and  ZUIN, Antonio Álvaro Soares. Violence and digital culture: the cyberbullying of high school students against teachers on YouTube. R. Educ. Públ. [online]. 2023, vol.32, e11925.  Epub Aug 25, 2023. ISSN 2238-2097.  https://doi.org/10.29286/rep.v32ijan/dez.11925.

This article investigates the reasons that led high school students to practice cyberbullying against their teachers. For that, a survey of videos of demeaning images of teachers posted on YouTube was carried out. The analysis was based on the conceptual assumptions of the Critical Theory of Society. After selecting three videos recorded in Brazilian schools, it is concluded that the students felt motivated to post such videos so that they could sadistically humiliate their teachers and be narcisstically recognized as producers of "viral" videos, which are constantly and massively seen, commented and answered on the social networks.

Keywords : Cultural industry; Teacher-student relationship; Virtual aggressions; Cyberbullying.
