The objective of the article is to provide reflection on an experience in which the projective interview was used to collect data about the about female teachers' perceptions of the mathematics item and the pedagogical information contained therein. The study is characterized as qualitative and exploratory research that adopted as a research process the projective interview with the aid of guide topics (illustrations and questions). The result reveals that the teachers, by analyzing the item and arguing about the reasoning hypothesis used by the student in choosing the distracter, perceived the pedagogical information in the item's distracter alternatives.
