In recent decades, there has been an investigative effort on Higher Education, the production of knowledge and internationalization. This study aims to characterize the leaders of research groups, in one of the states of the Brazilian Midwest region, in two public institutions. Through a bibliographic and documental survey, the area of education was analyzed, drawing attention to the impacts of its formation and performance in the development of these institutions. The considerations indicate that the transition from a concept of internationalization, such as face-to-face mobility to virtual mobility, must be consolidated in the post-pandemic period. Internationalization at home relates to both the formal and informal curriculum and aims to develop intercultural knowledge.
