MAZONI, Anna Rachel Gontijo e OLIVEIRA, Dalila Andrade. From social distinction to performativity: schools of excellence in Brazil and Chile. Rev. Educ. Polít. Debate [online]. 2023, vol.12, n.2, pp.600-622. Epub 18-Maio-2023. ISSN 2238-8346. https://doi.org/10.14393/repodv12n2a2023-69401.
This article discusses the phenomenon of excellence in education through a comparison between two school models: traditional emblematic schools and excellence-oriented educational policies, implemented in Latin American countries in recent decades. In order to understand the concept of excellence underlying these models, upper secondary education policies and schools were analyzed in Brazil and Chile. It was observed that the institutional and management culture prevalent in the school models determines what is meant by excellence education and the strategies used to achieve it.
