This article aims to identify and interpret the changes in the Programa Nacional do Livro e do Material Didático (PNLD) (National Book and Teaching Material Program) and its relationship with the implementation of the National Common Curricular Base in school institutions. So, it is possible to understand how the PNLD 2021 textbooks are related to the area of Applied Human and Social Sciences (CHSA) and how they are organized to be available in the schools in the country. The study sought to answer: how was the national policy of the textbook constituted? Furthermore, in the current context, after the implementation of the BNCC and the reform of high school, how are the didactic materials of the National Program of the Book and Didactic Material, part of the PNLD 2021 at High School, organized? For this purpose, qualitative research is used under two movements: the first of them in dialogue with researchers who address the themes of textbook policy, quality in the education, and PNLD 2021; the second one considers the document analysis of PNLD 2021 works in the area of Applied Human and Social Sciences and identifies aspects that are part of the categories of analysis based on Content Analysis (BARDIN, 2011). The analyzed collections are in dialogue with the skills and competencies of the BNCC and serve to implement this proposal in the classrooms of Brazilian schools. However, its organization is not directly related to the curricular proposal of the New High School, causing difficulties in its use when approaching the contents in an integrated way between the areas that make up the CHSA.
