Women deprived of liberty: reading and writing of reviews as alternative for reducing sentences. Rev. Educ. Polít. Debate [online]. 2024, vol.13, n.3, a2024-71667. This paper discusses the topic of female incarceration and the alternatives for reducing sentences through educational actions. The actions presented in it resulted from the experiences of the community outreach program developed from November 2022 to October 2023. The methodology employed is based on critical literacy and reading as a practice of freedom. The main goal was to assist women deprived of liberty in their processes of writing and to assess the reviews written by them, aiming the remission of their sentences. The outreach program included biweekly visits to Ana Maria do Couto May Women’s Penitentiary in Cuiaba, in which around thirty women engaged in preparing reviews. Part of that experience is described here, together with the discussion of female incarceration and remission through reading as the main topics.
