Abstract This article brings a discussion on the interface between media, consumption and the neoliberal device in magazine texts. When they have educational subjects, these kinds of media are supposed to offer not only information, advertising and opinions. The texts in which education is discussed make up cultural texts, producing ways to do, learn and teach things and, most importantly, ways of being and understanding the world. The published texts bear kinds of discourse that work as mechanisms to produce neoliberal arguments: while they are produced, they also create useful practices and subjectivities for their execution and for the increase on the consumption of services, products and actions in the field of education. The rationality and neoliberal practices that constitute the prevailing political project in society today are present in magazines, producing a discourse that is consonant with this perspective. Neoliberal power and power relations are in the texts like slender, insidious practices, embedded in the published discourse without any repressive or authoritarian sense. They appear like truths that go around in public spaces, in productive interaction with readers
