Abstract This article presents interviews that took place from 2008 to 2010, with women of different occupations: housewife, teacher, writer, administrator. The female voice highlighted in this paper allows us to observe that the censorship that marked the history of books and reading is still present in the twentieth century. By remembering their reading history, the maternal and paternal surveillance and their husbands’ criticism and prohibitions come up. As one can see, in these women’s lives, the censors did not hold them, excommunicate them, or tortured them physically, but their actions left scars, challenges and feelings of guilt to be overcome
