Abstract

The article discusses the potential of digital technologies and their socio-cultural appropriation by children and young people nowadays. It discusses the characteristics of the cognitive profile of the immersive reader, notions of literacy and digital literacy within the literature review and an empirical case experienced by the authors. Finally, it presents the potential of digital technologies, specifically of the use of virtual learning environments (vle), for the emergence of curricular and educational practices. The virtual learning environments allow the convergence of media and languages , which can enhance literacy and literacy practices in formal learning and preparation, since children and young adults have already directly or indirectly appropriated such potential.
