Abstract

SANTOS, Juliana Ormastroni Carvalho. A discussion on the meaning production in reading: between Bakhtin and Vygotsky. LTP [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.62, pp.75-86. ISSN 2317-0972.

This article, concerning the discussion on the process of the meaning production in reading activities, presents Bakhtin’s and Vygotsky’ theoretical precepts, scholars who, although not specifically focused on reading issues, offer foundations to analyze it as a historical and ideologically situated process. To achieve this goal, based on these scholars, language is seen as a social event, characterized by the subjects’ historicity and the immediate and short-time context, by contradiction and dialogism. We also analyze the other person’s role as a central element in the constitution of subjects and meanings, whether in social interactions in which the statements happen and the ZPD relationships are established or in the dialogism and responsive nature of expressions. Finally, we present reading as a moment in which the reader rescues the meanings already produced in other situations and in which new meanings can be produced.

Keywords : Meanings; Dialogism and Alterity; Zone of Proximal Development.
