Abstract

PEREIRA, Rosane de Bastos  and  PINTO NETO, Pedro da Cunha. Closed pages, waiting for readers. LTP [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.64, pp.49-63. ISSN 2317-0972.  https://doi.org/10.2014/LTP-v33n64jan0004.

This paper discourses about the National School Library Programme (PNBE), one of the pillars of the National Book and Reading Policy (PNLL). Created in 1997 by the Ministry of Education (MEC) with support from the National Fund for Education Development (FNDE) and the Department of Basic Education (SEB), the programme ensures the distribution of literary collections, reference works and research to students and teachers in public schools, from Primary to Middle Education, and Youth and Adults Education. The PNBE is recognized as unique in the world not only for the amount of public investment, but also for its scope, considering that all Brazilian regions are covered due to the annual registration of schools conducted by the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP). Although very rich literary collections are sent to schools, the reading´s deadlock still continues, and the books have not yet been incorporated into the school context.

Keywords : National School Library Program (PNBE); Reading; State School.
