Abstract

SILVEIRA JUNIOR, Célio da; LIMA, Maria Emília Caixeta de Castro  and  MACHADO, Andréa Horta. Science textbook and the mediation of texts in the classroom. LTP [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.65, pp.53-69. ISSN 2317-0972.  https://doi.org/10.2014/LTP-v33n65dez0053.

Textbook discussion has been discussed a lot, for a long time, and under various approaches. However, there are few papers that problematize the aspects related to the language of textbooks and their uses in the classroom. Even with the democratization of the access to textbooks, most papers deal with textbook use in the classroom only. Considering this problem, we have started from the theoretical conception of language as a producer of meaning in order to discuss the relationship between a Science textbook (ST) and the pedagogic mediation of its readings in the classroom. We have studied the characteristics of the ST, the demands that these characteristics impose on reading practices, and have analyzed the development of a specific mediation. Our objective is to contribute to the debate on these issues, focusing on the use of the textbook in the classroom through mediated readings by the teacher.

Keywords : Science Textbook; Reading; Pedagogic Mediation.
