Abstract

HOGRAEFE, Renata Paltrinieri  and  CUNHA, Maria Zilda da. Captains of the Sands, novel and film in dialogue. LTP [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.65, pp.71-86. ISSN 2317-0972.  https://doi.org/10.2014/LTP-v33n65dez0071.

From the perspective of Comparative Studies of Literature in Portuguese, this study aims to compare the novel Capitães da Areia (1937) and the homonymous fi lm (2001), discussing how the construction of the main character can reflect the historical context in which these works operate, and also how it marks the political and aesthetic projects of their respective authors. By doing so, we present how, in distinct ways, the process of constitution of the character Pedro Bala can be representative of a real historical subject in different contexts.

Keywords : Literature; Cinema; Jorge Amado.
