Abstract

COSSETIN, Márcia  and  BROTTO, Ivete Janice de Oliveira. A reading of Captains of the Sands: a story on poverty, misery and street children. LTP [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.65, pp.87-98. ISSN 2317-0972.  https://doi.org/10.2014/LTP-v33n65dez0087.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the existing link between a literary work and the social context of its production, and to present the relevance of the theme after seventy-eight years of the publication of the novel Captains of the Sands by Jorge Amado. Our analysis is theoretically based on Mikhail Bakthin, who understands language as a construct in which meanings and values are expressed, always organized in/by human events. We offer in this paper an example of reading a critique to social organization, since the facts constantly refer to reality.

Keywords : Literature; Speech; Social Organization.
