Abstract

SIMAO, Selma Machado  and  TASSONI, Elvira Cristina Martins. Intertwined lives: an intergenerational experience in non-formal education. LTP [online]. 2015, vol.33, n.65, pp.151-169. ISSN 2317-0972.  https://doi.org/10.2014/LTP-v33n65dez0151.

This article is based on an educational experiment conducted with subjects of different ages, regular members of a non-governmental organization based in Campinas (SP). This experience provided intergenerational experiences, focusing on increasing the cultural repertoire and improving the self-esteem of participants. The reported educational practice brought together reading and imagetic languages. The research included ten workshops in order to facilitate the immersion of the participants in the dimensions of subjectivity, seeking to create enagling environments for the development of expressive and affective capacities that could promote intergenerational social involvement, strengthening the bonds of belonging and the reconstruction of shared memory environments. The experience enabled the relationship between adult culture and the culture of children and adolescents, highlighting aesthetic preferences, different ways of thinking and knowledge of the world, narrowing the boundaries between generations and subverting traditional educational practices which have been sedimented and emptied of meaning.
