This article proposes a critical reading of two contemporary Latin American chronicles: “Escrito en el cuerpo” by Josefina Licitra and “La esquina es mi corazón (o los New Kids del bloque)” by Pedro Lemebel. In both cases the chronicle conveys an experience of history, recovering minority stories excluded from the paradigm of “monumental history” in Nietzsche’s terms, and therefore, alien to the circulation of knowledge. The “official knowledge,” which shapes and controls the circulation of institutional discourse, has excluded minority stories by its own epistemological imperatives. In this critical perspective, the article postulates the need to assert the chronicles as tools to communicate a knowledge that makes the identity of our people and shapes our collective experience.
