Abstract

ABREU, Márcia  and  MITTMANN, Adiel. Reading thousands of pages in one day: a digital analysis of critiques produced between the 18th and 19th centuries. LTP [online]. 2017, vol.35, n.71, pp.31-48. ISSN 2317-0972.  https://doi.org/10.5965/0102-387Xv35n71201700048.

This article presents a digital tool called DLNotes2, whose purpose is to produce semantic annotations that allow the analysis of large volumes of text. In this case, it was used for the study of literary criticism about novels, produced between the end of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth, in Portugal. Our intention is to show that a new understanding of reading reactions can be obtained through digital annotations and statistical analyses. The tool was able to identify traits of style and personality in two literary critics as well as to provide clues as to the ways in which they related to the novels.
