This paper defines the concept of poetry and proposes didactic reflections for its presence in the classroom. These reflections are based on theoretical approaches from authors who demonstrate the evidence that the poetic language are able to assure the formation of the critical reader by means of an effective fruition activity of the poetry. The results corroborate the teaching aspect based on the process of creation and experience of poetry as an art of memory and sharing in the context of oral cultures. In view of the above, it contributes to the implementation of learning situations that take into account reading out loud, so that the student can be seduced by the expressive uses of the language and seize the inventive knowledge of the poetic word, through a work of fruition led by the intense conversation, mediated between beginner reader, poetic text and experienced reader.
