The general objective of this article, in which we approach the characterization of the International Student Assessment Program - Pisa -, is to characterize the Pisa Mathematics assessment. Initially, we presented a comprehensive overview of the Pisa regarding the following aspects: what the Pisa investigates and how, the instruments for a good result in the assessment, the grades attributed to the Pisa, and the sample size of students. Then, we deal with the assessment of the Mathematics approach, how it is analyzed, how it is constructed and the scale adopted for the exam, and, later, we present the Brazilian results in this domain. As a methodology, we used descriptive qualitative research, based on the technique of document analysis. The main results highlight the importance of understanding evaluation for the construction of equity education even when its impact on the pedagogical sphere is incipient.
