This article stems from a survey on the perception of participants in a training course for school managers, promoted by the municipal education network in Salvador/BA. To this end, the research covered the categories: school management; training of managers; perception; and production of meaning, having exploratory research as a guiding methodology, with a qualitative approach, supported by documentary, bibliographic and field research, with the application of questionnaires. The relationship between the objective and subjective aspects of training policies was considered, in an attempt to reconcile the views that coexist in the field. It is concluded that the course offered was punctual, with theoretical fragility and absence of content related to strategic planning of school management.
